Afterglance

Privacy Policy

The short version. Afterglance has no accounts and no sign-up. Almost everything it knows about you — the paintings you stayed with, the ones you walked past, the taste it learns — never leaves your phone. Your location never leaves your phone either. The only thing we send anywhere is the text you type when you talk to a painting, because a painting cannot answer without it.

Who we are

Afterglance is an independent app made and operated by Grappes LLC. If you have a question about anything here, write to support@afterglance.app.

No account, no profile

You do not create an account to use Afterglance. We do not ask for your name, your email, or your phone number, and we have no way to identify you across devices. If you delete the app, everything it remembered about you is gone with it.

What stays on your device

The following is stored only in the app's private storage on your phone. We never receive it, and it is never uploaded:

Location

If you allow it, Afterglance reads your approximate location once, in the foreground, to sort museums by how far they are from you. The distance is calculated on your device. Your coordinates are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. You can refuse, and the app works fine — the museums simply appear unsorted. You can revoke the permission at any time in your phone's Settings.

Conversations with paintings

When you talk with a painting, the message you type is sent to our server, which forwards it — together with public facts about that artwork, such as its title, artist, and materials — to Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the reply in the painting's voice. This is the only feature that sends anything you write off your device.

Subscriptions

Patron subscriptions are sold by Apple and managed for us by RevenueCat. When you subscribe, RevenueCat receives a randomly generated anonymous identifier, your purchase receipt, and basic device and country information, so the app knows your subscription is active. We never see your payment details — those stay with Apple.

Artwork images

Paintings are fetched directly by your device from Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata. Those services receive your IP address as part of the request, as any website would, and handle it under the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy.

Analytics and crash reports

Afterglance currently ships with analytics switched off. Nothing is collected. If we ever turn it on, it will be limited to pseudonymous product events tied to a random installation identifier — never the text of your conversations, never your location — and this page will say so before it happens.

Notifications

Notifications are scheduled and delivered by your own device. Afterglance has no push server and holds no push token, so no notification you receive has travelled through us.

Children

Afterglance is not directed at children. Its collection includes works of classical art that depict the nude human figure, as museums do. Please see the app's age rating on the App Store.

Your choices

Because we hold no personal data that identifies you, there is nothing for us to look up, export, or delete on request. If you believe otherwise, write to us and we will look into it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be announced in the app.
